Carabidae,  is  a very large family of beetles whose members vary widely in appearance. Many of these beetles can be collected by lights at night or under rocks and logs on the ground. Several species of Ground Beetle like C sayi and C. scrutator emit a foul odor when handled live that I find difficult to wash off. I noticed that when the beetle is dead the odor is gone.
