Most Rove Beetles feed on decaying material. They can be found in animal dung, carrion, and under decaying vegetation.  The Ocellate Rove Beetles listed above were collected from my German Shepherds Dung using a process where I place the dung in a tub of water and collect the beetles as they float to the top. These Ocellate Beetles are tiny (about 4mm) as compared to the Hairy Rove Beetle (about 20mm) listed above it. I have collected Hairy Rove beetles around carrion and near lights at night.
